Motion Tweening

In motion tweening, you define properties such as position, size, and rotation for an instance, group, or text block at one point in time, and then you change those properties at another point in time. You can also apply a motion tween along a path.

Step 1
Choose the Text tool in the left toolbox.

Step 2
Click in the work area and write "Hello".

Step 3
Using the Black Arrow, click on the text you just wrote.

Step 4
Modify > Group—this will turn the word into a Group.

Step 5a
In the Align Palette select the "To Stage" button first. Then click on the "Align Horizontal Center".

Step 5b
Using the Black Arrow, move "Hello" up towards the top of the movie stage.

Step 6
Click on the Timeline. Insert a new Keyframe at Frame 25—click on Frame 25 and go to Insert > Timeline > New Keyframe.

Step 7
Click on Frame 25. Using the Black Arrow, move "Hello" down, towards the middle of the stage.

Step 8
Click on the Timeline. Insert new Keyframes at Frames 40 and 50—click on Frame 40 and go to Insert > Timeline > New Keyframe, repeat this for Frame 50.

Step 9
Click on Frame 50. Using the Black Arrow tool, move "Hello" down, towards the bottom of the stage.

Step 10
Click on the Timeline between Frames 1 and 25. In the Property Inspector, select MOTION from the Tween dropdown box. Then, Click on the Timeline between Frames 40 and 50. In the Property Inspector, select MOTION from the Tween dropdown box.

Step 11
Add a new layer; go to Insert > Timeline > New Layer.

Step 12
Look at the Timeline; make sure you are on Frame 1 and on the new Layer. Then, select the Text tool and click on the stage.

Step 13
Write the word "World".

Step 14
Using the Black Arrow, click on the text you just wrote.

Step 15
Modify > Group—this will turn the word into a Group.

Step 16
Using the Black Arrow, move "World" towards the right of the movie stage.

Step 17
Click on the Timeline (make sure you are on the "World" layer). Insert a new Keyframe at Frame 25—click on Frame 25 and go to Insert > Timeline > New Keyframe.

Step 18
Click on Frame 25 (on the "World" layer). This will automatically select "World". In the Align Palette select the "To Stage" button first. Then click on the "Align Horizontal Center".

Step 19
Click on the Timeline (on the "World" layer). Insert new Keyframes at Frames 30 and 45—click on Frame 30 and go to Insert > Timeline > New Keyframe, repeat this for Frame 45.

Step 20
Click on Frame 45. Using the Black Arrow tool, move "World" towards the left side of the stage.

Step 21
Click on the Timeline (on the "World" layer) between Frames 1 and 25. In the Property Inspector, select MOTION from the Tween dropdown box. Then, Click on the Timeline between Frames 30 and 45. In the Property Inspector, select MOTION from the Tween dropdown box.

Step 22
Choose Control > Test Movie to test your Flash movie.
